Deer Creek Chorale
  Let the music flow

Community Impact

Community involvement - beginning at the local level and extending to the global community - is a founding principle of the Deer Creek Chorale. This commitment is evident in the activities of the Chorale and its individual membership.  We strive to make a difference.

Flower Power

The earthquake in Haiti has had long-lasting impact that will be felt for years to come. Among the losses at the Holy Trinity Cathedral complex in Port Au Prince was the music school (L'Ecole Ste. Trinité). Joining in the relief efforts being provided by St. Johns Episcopal in Glyndon, the Chorale held a spring plant sale at the May 2010 concert, with profits going to replace instruments and supplies at the school.

Sharing the Gift of Reading

Over 450 “Books for Burundi” (Africa) were donated by Deer Creek Chorale members during a January outreach.  Donations included children’s favorite titles, easy readers, textbooks, hymnals, reference books, biographies biographies, adult nonfiction, and novels  Beneficiaries in Africa include the bookless rural “School of Hope” for minority pygmy students; a Friends "Peace and Reconciliation" library in Kigali; and a Friends School Library in Rwanda.

A "Marathon Effort"

Tenor Peter Johnson ran the first Gaborone Marathon in Botswana to raise funds to support orphaned children.  Goals are to build a day care and pre-school and provide the necessary equipment and materials for children; to increase school readiness of young children in low income and orphaned families; and to reduce the degree of malnutrition among young children and orphans of Semolale Village.

Singing for a Cause

The Inscription of Hope benefit concert, conducted by Randall Stroope, teamed DCC with the North Harford school choruses and drew an audience of over 600.  The highlight was John Rutter's "Mass of the Children." Rutter shared, "I am delighted that my Mass of the Children is being included in today's concert directed by Randall Stroope...this note comes with my good will and good wishes to Randall and all the performers ...and to all who have come to enjoy the concert as members of the audience."
